Coalition President/CEO invited to participate in Mayor Turner's COVID Task Force

On April 23, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner established his Health Equity Response (HER) task force to focus on providing at-risk and vulnerable communities - who the coronavirus has disproportionately impacted - with additional information, supplies, and services.

The Coalition thanks Mayor Turner for inviting our President/CEO Mike Nichols to join the task force.

"As lead agency of the Houston region's homeless response system, the Coalition has worked for nearly four decades to help our most vulnerable citizens access critical services and housing to improve their quality of life," says Nichols. "I am honored to be a part of Mayor Turner's HER task force to promote equitable and rapid access to information, supplies, and services for marginalized groups in our community."

"The COVID crisis has again revealed the need for improved equity in healthcare for our vulnerable populations," continued Nichols. "The Coalition supports the expansion of Medicaid in Texas and believes that healthcare funding should include dollars for housing and other non-medical programs that are shown to improve social determinants and healthcare outcomes."
